Madeline Pentland is a PhD candidate in the School of History. Her research focus is the gendered identity and relationships of Australian parliamentarian women, as they negotiated political domains from 1986 to 2013.
Madeline graduated from the Victorian Parliamentary Internship Program in 2021, as the recipient of the Presiding Officers Prise for Most Outstanding Report on behalf of Independent MLA Suzanna Sheed. Madeline graduated Australian Catholic University with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in 2023, receiving the University Honours Medal for her thesis titled 'Keeping the Histories Honest: Framing a Political Legacy of Natasha Stott Despoja'. Madeline is also interested in the intersection of political and popular culture, presenting at the University of Melbourne 'Swiftposium' in 2024.
Madeline is an editor of the ANU Historical Journal II, is a tutor and research assistant at the ANU, and has professional experience as a public historian (History at Work).
